Wine & Wonderland

Wednesday was the last of a series of disgusting and rainy days, but was the worst of the batch. I stayed in except from class, but spent the night with friends in the Cube. Morgan invited me to have dinner in her room with Deirdre and Bamboo. We made cookies afterward and watched Zoolander with a bigger group.

The next night, we went out to Havanna for bluegrass band and had a few drinks, proceeded to Bru, and then Morgan and I walked around for a bit.

Friday, I spent my Maori art class at Te Papa (Museum of New Zealand) looking at the art styles in Marae, canoes, etc. and sketching the designs inside of one of the Marae.

Emily, Tuomas, and I went out to Boogie Wonderland and had a great time dancing there for a solid 3 hours. Hidden inside of Boogie Wonderland is a separate bar called Alice (in Wonderland) that is entirely based on Lewis Caroll’s two books. I had a veryyyy strong drink with Absinthe in it. Exciting. A really neat place!

Saturday was by far one of the most exciting days I have had in New Zealand yet! I left Wellington for the first time and visited Battle Hill Farm and Alana Estate Vineyard for a wine tasting. We had lunch in a neat little town and made a few other unique stops. Upon returning, I went to dinner with Greer and Emily at Laundry.

I went out later with a big group to see Skindiana Jones, a burlesque take on Indiana Jones, which was totally ridiculous and a lot of fun! We went to Boogie Wonderland again and then Meg and I went bar hopping for several hours until we were forced to head home at 4am because all of the bars closed.

Yesterday, Sharyn and I had lunch on the lawn of the government building and walked around for a while. We made the mistake of trying to be kiwis by not taking shoes with us, which resulted in about 6 blisters on the bottoms of my feet. We were sitting by the water for a while and a stingray swam up, which is apparently really common, but I thought it was really neat!

Today, I hung out at the beach and met for the first time with the people running the honey acne study that I will be helping with (and getting paid for) for the next three months.

Back to classes tomorrow -_-
