One Month: An Evaluation

Today marks one month from the day that I arrived to my new home on the other side of the world. New Zealand IS all that it’s cracked up to be. I’ve learned a few things, though. The slang is very different, everything is way more expensive due to a higher minimum wage, everyone is so much nicer, and everything is more beautiful.

The sights that I’ve seen are some of the most magnificent ones I’ve experienced, and I’ve only seen Wellington and traveled about an hour and a half outside of it. There is so much more to see here, that I WILL see, and it’s already gorgeous.

Everyone is genuinely very nice, from clothing store workers that converse with you from the other side of the dressing room curtain (which has happened to me twice), to people always talking to you in the elevator. Even being the stupid American that doesn’t know anything doesn’t phase people. They patiently wait and genuinely don’t mind.

I finally fulfilled my goal on Wednesday of finding a GOOD margarita. The Mexican choices aren’t too broad here. No huge margaritas, no free chips and salsa. And the food is EXPENSIVE, as opposed to the normal $1 tacos. I got 3 for $14 here and was stoked about how good of a deal it was.

All in all, I have spent way to much money, drank too much alcohol, haven’t done as much school work as I should,  haven’t traveled as much as I want to (but will in the next month), and have met some really great people. I love New Zealand.
